Earth Liberation Studio is an art studio in its early stages.
The studio explores the themes of climate change, late-stage capitalism, ecosocialism, communism, anarchism, and revolutionary optimism. The work argues that a better world is possible — one where the climate crisis is solved, and humanity is freed from the chains of capital, debt, credit, and soul-crushing, alienating work.
Earth Liberation Studio starts with the simple truth that capitalism is the reason for the unwillingness to address the climate crisis. Under capitalism, a profit incentive is necessary for any work to be done. The work that must be done to address the climate crisis — global ecosystem restoration, equitable migration of millions of people away from sacrifice zones, etc. — is inherently unprofitable under capitalism. Therefore, the climate crisis cannot be even addressed in any meaningful way until capitalism has been done away with.
A core theme in Earth Liberation Studio is Ecosocialism, which we believe to be the only societal structure comprehensive enough to take on the climate crisis. There is no correct or agreed upon definition of ecosocialism, but what we envision is loosely this: the liberation of every human from profit-driven, extractive labor, as we, the workers, self-reorganize to do the necessary work of mitigating and reversing the effects of the climate crisis, while protecting the millions of us susceptible to climate related disasters.
Earth Liberation Studio supports decolonization efforts from our indigenous comrades, and believes that decolonization is a key part of solving climate change and creating a better world.
Earth Liberation Studio was started by B.Y, a working class artist who makes most of his art while at his day job. B.Y. has been involved in the climate movement for many years as an art lead for the Sunrise Movement.
